Winifred Socks
When I sat down to design this pattern I wanted to go with a very classic, vintage feel hence the picot hem and tiny little cables.
The name of the socks also needed to have a classic and vintage feel to it and so the name Winifred was suggested.
Winifred is a Welsh name, that was very popular in the late Victorian and Edwardian eras. It signifies “friend of peace” and it’s derived from the name Gwenfrewi.
Materials
2.5 mm (1.5US) / 9” circular needles / DPNs 3 stitch markers - 1 to mark beginning of row, 1 to mark the middle, 1 marker for heel.
Main Color – London Fog Cake sock kit 100g / 463yards – Wooly Owl Fibers. (75 / 25 SW Merino/Nylon fingering weight yarn) Contrast Color – London Fog Cake sock kit Mini 20g / 92yards – Wooly Owl Fibers. (75 / 25 SW Merino/Nylon fingering weight yarn)
Scissors Darning needle
Level Beginner (this pattern uses a picot edge, left twist, right twist and the heel gusset technique.)
Gauge - Knit in stockinette in the round (using the smaller needles measured on the foot) – 32 sts and 44 rows in a 4”/10cm
